Ancient Rome Research

Today we are exploring ancient Rome through video research. You will choose one topic (Geography, Roman Republic, Julius Caesar, or the Roman Empire) and watch a series of video clips on your topic.
While you're watching you will need to answer these two questions.
  1. What do you know about your topic?
  2. Why is your topic important to the history of ancient Rome?
Thank you, Mr. Ferrell

One More!

I could only upload four videos per blog post. So, we saved the best for last. Here is group #5 ...

Similes and Metaphors - English Shorts

We finished editing our figurative language videos in class Thursday. The students did an excellent job explaining similes and metaphors in their videos. We used the design concepts from the Common Craft Show video series for this project. Thank you for the idea!

Please check out the videos and leave a comment about what you think.

Have a great day,

Mr. Ferrell

The Polis of Sparta

You will write a blog entry today about your thoughts on the story of Sparta and Commander Lear. Please choose at least three of these questions to discuss in your blog entry.

  • What is your overall impression or feeling about Sparta?
  • What emotions would you feel if you were Commander Lear? Or his wife?
  • How does this story make you feel about the polis of Sparta?
  • Do you believe this is a good way to build a civilization? (Be sure to explain why!)
  • How does Sparta compare with the United States?
  • Would you like to go back in time and live in ancient Sparta? (Be sure to explain why!)

When you have published your comment you may explore the British Museum's excellent website on ancient Sparta.

As we continue in our study of algebra I hope that we begin to see how it can be used outside of the classroom. Your assignment this morning is to create a real-life word problem that uses algebra.

After you have posted your problem please solve three problems that other students have created. When posting your answers be sure to thoroughly explain your answers.

Good luck!
Mr. Ferrell
