Sparta is very cruel because if you had a problem you would half to be killed. the story made me feal that it was not fair. You could be a really good person and do well but they just can’t take a hint that they are mean.
They should have built their government better because they just wanted to be better but they weren’t. They were just a jerk. The babies that could be a soldier they would be taken away from their mother and their father just so he could be a soldier.

Sparta is so horrible it isn’t even funny. They judge you on your physical abilities not mental. It would be terrible to have your child killed and put in the mountains.

How would you feel if your child was killed and you had been so excited? And your child is taken away to training camp at the age of 7, put into war at 20 and retired at 60! It is HORRIBLE!

I think Sparta was very cruel because if u were not a perfect baby then the baby was killed. I would never want to go and live in Sparta because I would not want to be going to war all the times. They were very good warriors but, very mean. Sparta probably had one of the strongest army’s in the world.

The polis of Sparta had a very strong army. When a baby was born if he/she was healthy and strong they would be aloud to live but if anything wrong with the baby it would be put in a jar and thrown into the woods. A boy would leave his mother at the age of 7 to begin military training. At age 20 they would join the army and at age 30 they were allowed to marry if they wanted to. They retired at age 60. I wouldn’t have liked to live in Sparta and I think they were very cruel.

I think Sparta is cruel and unfair. It is cruel because if you weren’t born right or you weren’t healthy then you would be put in a jar and die. It is unfair because you could be a really good fighter and they didn’t even care. You just had to be healthy.
The polis is a really good thing to have because you could climb up the big hill and throw rocks down on the enemy. When the enemy got up there they would be tired and you could win easily. I think Sparta would be a very bad place to live because it is cruel and unfair.

Sparta is cruel. I would feel depressed about if I was his wife and that his baby would left alone in the wilderness. This story is a good story but also a sad story too. I think that this is a bad way to build a civilization. Sparta is a good military place but a bad place to be a boy. But the United States is better because girls have more respect and boys don’t have to go to war all the time. In my own opinion I would not like to go there or live there at all.

I think it would be kind of cool to be a solider but it would stink to be the father of a child that had to be killed. Sparta was very strict and they made kids steal food to eat I think it was a good practice to get quick and sneaky but they should make it fake and not make them actually steal food from other people.

Sparta is cruel and unfair because if you were born unusual you would die. If my child was born unusual and I knew he was going to die I would be very mad and sad. I do not like Sparta it is a mean place. It is not at all a good way to start a civilization. The United States is fair opposed to Sparta. I would not want to go back in time and be in Sparta.

Sparta was very cruel. They ate pig blood soup and didn’t care if you liked the soup or not it was just something to eat. If there was something wrong with you then they would kill you and that’s just not fair. What if you really were a good fighter and they never gave you a chance? I think that that’s just not right everyone should get a chance and some baby’s never got that one chance. They should make a school for children with special needs in Sparta and take care of the baby’s and girls should always be able to live because they don’t fight so they should just stay home and help clean.

1) I think Sparta is horrible.
2) I would feel very bad for Commander Lear and his wife.
3) It makes me feel SICK. I don’t like it because they killed babies who weren’t very good.
4) No, because if you keep killing non-healthy babies, then you’re civilization won’t be very big.
5) It has a good military, but that’s it.
6) No, I wouldn’t like to go back in time to live in Sparta because if I went back to Sparta, I’d be dead because I had a cold when I was born.

My impression of Sparta is that it is very cruel. I feel that way because if I was born with a clubbed foot they would kill me. If I was in Commander Lear’s place then I would kill the people that killed my baby. Or if I was his wife then I would fell hurt and sad because I had just given birth to the baby for nothing. They should make like a school or daycare for the babies with special needs. This is not a good way to run a civilization because they are just mean. I think that the USA is way different from Sparta. That’s what I think about Sparta.

I really dislike Sparta. They killed babies, and were cruel. I would feel terrible if I had an unhealthy baby, because they took the baby, and then killed it if it was unhealthy. The U.S. is better than Sparta when it comes to health care and taking care of people, although Sparta had a better army. The US looks like a walk in the park compared to Sparta.

Anonymous said...

I don’t think it was very nice if you weren’t healthy enough you would die. Otherwise if you were perfectly healthy then when you turned seven you would go to the training place to get trained to go to the army when you were twenty and when you turned thirty you could marry if you wanted to Although you would have a very strong military.

Sparta’s Polis

If I had a child and it was not healthy or not really strong, they would kill my baby. I wouldn’t have a say in anything. They would take my child and put it in a bottle and then put it in the wilderness. I don’t think that this is a good way to make a great civilization because some babies aren’t perfect and parents wouldn’t be happy. It just wasn’t fair. They built there civilization on how strong they were and all they wanted to do was fight.
I would not want to live in Sparta because it is really cruel and all they care about was war they didn’t even care about how their food tasted.

Anonymous said...

If I was Commander Lear I wouldn’t be very happy because, I would joyful that my wife was having a baby. I don’t think it was fair because what if the baby was really smart and strong.
Sparta had a very strong military they weren’t the smartest people in the world either. A polis is a place that you go to get shelter and safety

Anonymous said...

If I was Commander Lear. I’d be happy because I was going to become a father. But when I found out that the baby had a clubbed foot, I’d be sad because I knew that he would be killed. I don’t think that it’s fair because if you weren’t healthy but you became strong they would never know.

Sparta had a huge strong army that was nearly never defeated. But they weren’t the smartest.

Sparta was a very powerful polis. If you were a baby and you had a disorder or mental illness you were killed. They would put you in a jar and ditch you in the woods. I personally think that that was unfair because it wouldn’t be your fault if you had a club foot or mental illness such as Down syndrome. Spartans believed that a man’s strength was measured by not how you listen or wrote another man’s words, it is how you conquer another man. I think that a good army is necessary but you should have an education. That’s what I think and leave a comment about what you think.

Sparta is an ancient civilization that is in Greece. Sparta grew olives, grapes and many more food and so did the rest of Greece. Sparta and Athens fought a lot. Athens is another ancient civilization on Greece. Sparta won almost every war they had. That’s because they had a very strong army. They got a strong army by when a baby was born and it was a boy special people came and checked if the baby was healthy, didn’t have a disorder, and strong they would keep his life but if you weren’t strong, had a disorder, and wasn’t healthy then they would put you in a jar and put you in the woods or something and leave you and never come back for you ever again. So if you were good enough when you were 7 years old you would go into training to be a solider. It would be awful to live in Ancient Greece I would never want to go back in time to Ancient Greece.

Anonymous said...

Probably the only thing that I like about Sparta is that they had a very good army. In Sparta they were proud of their bad tasting food. They had soup that had pig blood in it! If you were a boy in Sparta your life started off as a baby, of course. If you were a healthy baby you could stay alive. If they thought you were weak they would put you in a jar and you would be sent into the woods. At the age of seven you were off to be trained to be a soldier. At twenty you had to join the army. When you get to the age of thirty you got to marry, and at sixty you retired.

Anonymous said...

I think that the Spartans military was very cool and I would have been happy to be in their army. If I were commander Lear I would be pretty mad and angry about that. I would love to go back in time and live in Sparta where I could rule and try to conquer as many places as possible.

Anonymous said...

If I could go back in time to live in ancient Greece, I wouldn’t because if you were born a boy and weren’t healthy they would kill you. At age seven you were taken from your mother to train to be a soldier. Also they wouldn’t feed you and you had to steel any food you found and if you were caught you were beat, this taught them how to be fast and strong. If you were a girl at age seven you would do sports to get stronger.
At age 20 you become a soldier and at age 30 you were aloud to marry. If the baby you had was unhealthy they would stick you in a jar and put you out in the wilderness to be eaten or starve. If you were a soldier at age 60 you were aloud to retire.

It was unfair and I would feel very sad if I had a kid that had to be killed. If I was Commander Lear I would be very sad and mad that they made me kill my own kid. It was very rude and mean in the polis of Sparta. I hated how they would take the kids and put them in jars. No, it was a very bad way of building a civilization because every one who had a son that wasn’t “Perfect” would be mad and sad.
Sparta had much more harsh rules and I really didn’t like them that much. No, I would hate to live in ancient Sparta just because I had to go to war and I wasn’t “perfect” when I was born. I was unable to move at all because my feet and legs wouldn’t move.

Anonymous said...

I think it is not fair because I mean they can’t help that they are born weird. Everybody is different in there own way. I would never want to live in Greece they harsh rules. I would be really mad if they took my kid away from me and kill it. They have hopes and dreams

Anonymous said...

My overall impression of Sparta is that they seemed very cruel. That story makes me think that Sparta just cared about strength. They didn’t care about other things. They probably thought what they were doing was the best thing to do. In my opinion it was not. I think here in the USA we have more rights than they do. There they didn’t have much of an option. Here we have options. I most definitely would NOT want to live there. I would never give up America for Sparta.

Anonymous said...

I think it is not fair because every one is special in there own way. I would feel very sad if they were going to kill my son or daughter just because they had something wrong with them. This story makes me mad at the polis of Sparta because that is not the way to build a civilization because if they keep every one who was born then there army mite have been even stronger because all of the people might of have different strategies and they might have been special in there on way.

Anonymous said...

I think that Sparta if they would let the everyone live they would get more soldiers because of more woman giving birth. You might get more “perfect” children to be soldiers. (technically you will have a bigger and more powerful army).

Anonymous said...

My overall impression about the city of Sparta is that a lot of times they wasted their time and money. Even if the child had physical defects it can still reproduce more soldiers. If I was commander Lears wife I would be very sad that I went though the pain of having a child and all the pain was all for nothing. It makes me mad that they were not considering anything but war. They’re not thinking about other things in live like love and peace.

I think with a few changes Sparta would be a pretty good city. The big thing that I would change about Sparta would be they’re policy about babies. Sparta was not like America at all. If I had a choice I would not want to live in Sparta.

Anonymous said...

1) We think its harsh and mean to live in Sparta
2) We would be sad for the people and there babies.
3) We don’t like The Polis Of Sparta
4) NO this is Not a good way to build a civilization
5) The united states is way different than Sparta
6) NOOOO!!

Sparta was the most powerful polis in ancient Greece. If you were born with any problems or anything you would be killed, if not you would go into the army. I don’t think it was very fair because you shouldn’t be killed if you had anything wrong with you, and what if you didn’t want to be in the army? If I was Commander Lear I would be mad at the rules because he would be killed.

Anonymous said...

In Sparta if there was anything wrong with you, you were killed. They only cared about war. For this reason I think that Sparta was only good for inventing the phalanx and winning the Persian war. I would be very sad and angry were I Commander Lear. I would hate to live in Sparta. They were barbaric. I despise the way they lived.

My impression about Sparta is that it is really crazy. My feeling a bout Sparta is that it is cruel. There is no reason for people to kill people just because there leg is turned side way just a littlie bit. The way of the polis of Sparta was that no one wants to be born in Sparta. It is kind of like the United States cause now if you don’t want a kid you could get an abortion.

My impression on Sparta is bad because they kill babes if there deformed.
If I were Lear I would feel so bad that my babe is getting killed because its
Deformed. I would go back in time so I could tell them what there doing wrong.

Sparta is very unfair. Because they threw little kids if they had just a little fever and they let them die! This is the worst way to build a civilization because, all they cared about was power and they wanted everyone to be perfect. Well everyone is different. Everyone has their own way. I would hate to go back in time because; if I had a fever I would die of slow painful death. In real life if I was born in Sparta I would be dead because I was born with a fever that’s cruel!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think that Sparta’s way of thinking is mean and cruel. Just think if you were a boy or girl and you were born with out your right hand. If you lived in Sparta you would get killed! If I could go back in time to live in Sparta I wouldn’t go!

I think that it would be really bad if I had to give my children away, that I gave birth to.

It is so terrible because they just had one thing wrong. Why don’t they just fix it rather than just give the whole baby away. It would be really bad if I had to live there in Sparta.

Anonymous said...

I think that Sparta that it is cruel. Sad that they have to kill their child like at the beginning he’s happy he so existed and he’s and there he is and his foot is not in the right position so they kill him his brain ok he doesn’t have a bad mind!

Anonymous said...

Ancient Sparta is a war-loving country. The way Sparta makes its civi it’s terrible. I would never live in Sparta. The polis is unprotected and stupid.

Sparta was a very powerful place and all they cared about was winning. So to win the war u had to have the best army so when a boy was born and had any type of problem they would think and see if this baby was good to be in war and if they were not then they would put them in a jar and throw them some were. I think this is unfair because just you have something wrong with you that just dose not be should just ditched. If you kill all these people because they have 1 or 2 problems you might not have a good army because you don’t have that many people when you could just fix them and have a huge army!

Sparta wasn’t really a good polis they had a lot of problems that they need to fix. Like the fact that they were always thinking about war and that was really that was the only thing important to them. That and their oligarchy. It wasn’t really a fair way to run a civilization. All people didn’t have the same right’s as other people women couldn’t vote only certain men could vote you had to be this certain age. It also bothers me at the fact they would make their children go to war and get training for stuff maybe they didn’t even want to do. Sparta was really different from the United States it wasn’t really as free mined as we are and we don’t think about war 24/7 and we have other problems we focus on. I might actually want to go back just for like a day to see how they lived and what it was like but then come back because it would probably start to get kind of boring and I wouldn’t like it that much.

Anonymous said...

I don’t think they should have to kill their own son.
I think Sparta is not a nice place to live I think their rules are evil. I don’t think this is a good way to build a community, because their polis is just all about war.
We don’t treat people this way in the U.S. In the United States we care about all people.
I don’t want to live in Sparta because everything is about war and you wouldn’t get to see your husband or your children.

Is Greece’s Fair

No, because it is totally wrong to kill somebody after birth because of a minor problem. Also if you were very excited about having a child it would be a huge put down.
